Transitioning into Middle School – Advisory
What is it:
An organized group of at least one adult and a group of students that serves as the students’ first line of affiliation in their school.
WHY is it:
- Ensure that each student is known well at school by at least one adult who is the child’s advocate
- Guarantee that every student belongs to a peer group
- Help every student find ways of being successful within the academic and social options the school provides
- Promote communication and coordination between home and school
What it looks like:
Students discuss problems, concerns or even fears they are dealing with, as well as goals and accomplishments. There are many activities that advisors can use to encourage effective communication within the advisory group.
Eg . HACE, Question Cards, Pressure Role Play, Self-Esteem Project
