Dear Parent(s),
This year the British Columbia Ministry of Education has redesigned the curriculum and one of the results is that students will have to write fewer provincial exams. In the past, students were expected to write five provincial exams; English 10, Math 10, Science 10, Socials 11, and English 12/English 12 First Peoples. In the future our students will be expected to write a Math 10 exam, and a Grade 10 to 12 literacy concepts exam.
For this year, 2016-2017, the only formal exams that the students have to write are:
- English 12 Tuesday January 24, 2017 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am in the small gym
- FRAL 12 Wednesday January 25, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 pm in room 405 (French Immersion)
- English 12 First Peoples Wednesday January 25, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 pm in room 405
English 10, Math 10, Science 10 and Socials 11 exams will now be administered as in-class exams prepared by their classroom teacher, and each individual teacher will determine the date of this in-class exam. The only exceptions to this are:
- If your child took any of the following courses last year: English 10, Math 10, Science 10, and Socials 11, and were not successful. If this is the case then they would have to rewrite that exam according to the schedule below.
- Or your child never took English 10, Math 10, Science 10, and Socials 11 last year and was supposed to be enrolled.
These exams will be in the provincial exam format. STUDENTS MUST PLEASE SEE MR. STRIKER TO MAKE THE ARRANGEMENTS TO WRITE ANY OF THE EXAMS BELOW.
Socials 11 – Thursday January 26, 2016-2017 9:00-11:00 am
English 10 – Wednesday January 25, 2016-2017 9:00-11:00 am
Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 – Monday January 23, 2017 1:00 -3:00 pm
Science 10 – Thursday January 26, 2017 9:00 – 11:00 am
In summary, the last week of each semester was traditionally scheduled for students to write provincial exams. This will no longer be the case and all Grades 9-12 students will be expected to be in regular classes until January 26, 2017.
Thank you
