Absent Policy

IF your child is absent from school, please REMEMBER to send a note with your child when he/she returns to school.

When students are absent (this includes absences for suspension or expulsion recommendations), an opportunity to make up work will be provided.  Make-up work is encouraged so that students will profit from future instruction.  Upon the student’s return to school, he/she must have completed the work assigned.

UNEXCUSED absences require the student to MAKE-UP time.  Make-Up time dates and times are announced to students in school.  Remember anytime a student stays after school with their teacher for help with their work, qualifies as “make-up” time.  The student just needs to ask for a note from their teacher to confirm.  Students will need to make up 30 minutes per class missed or 2 hours per day.  It is the responsibility of the students to attend MAKE-UP time in order to eliminate their unexcused absences in their attendance records and have the opportunity to go to the school dance.  Students are not eligible to go to school dances with any unexcused absences.

TEACHERS will contact parents of student’s who are habitually late.

SIGN OUT Procedures:  Sign out procedures ensure the safety and accountability of students. Whether you are ill or have an appointment during instructional time, students must tell the teacher and then report to the office where one of the secretaries will phone parents to confirm.  A note is still required upon the student’s return to school.

MORE INFORMATION regarding the School Absent Policy can be found on this website under the top heading, SCHOOL and then click on ABSENT POLICY.  Please take the time to review the policy to be informed.

PARENTS are reminded of the importance of “in school” instruction that is missed when students are absent from school.  Students should only be excused from classes when absolutely necessary.  Making appointments outside school hours is encouraged.

Thank you for your co-operation.
