Middle School – FAQ’s

If you missed the Middle School Presentation, you can still read all about it here!  Middle School start up is September 2012.  Please read the following link for more information:

Absences of 5 days or more need 2 weeks Notice

Mount Elizabeth’s Attendance Policy states that if parents wish to take their child out of school for five or more days and wish those days to be “excused absences” the parent must give the school staff at least two weeks notice of such an absence. Therefore, we, at the school, require that students bring in a note from their parents/guardians, two weeks before going to the All Native Basketball Tournament in Prince Rupert, BC. This Tournament starts on February 5 – 11, 2012.

If preferred, please use the following Absent Form:  Student Absent Notice, click here to open and print

Students will be excused from making up time when they miss any days (Only if they have a note from their parents/guardians two weeks in advance), this is considered a Cultural event. If they pass the two week deadline and any days that they miss, they will have to make up the time for it.

Absent Policy

IF your child is absent from school, please REMEMBER to send a note with your child when he/she returns to school.

When students are absent (this includes absences for suspension or expulsion recommendations), an opportunity to make up work will be provided.  Make-up work is encouraged so that students will profit from future instruction.  Upon the student’s return to school, he/she must have completed the work assigned.

UNEXCUSED absences require the student to MAKE-UP time.  Make-Up time dates and times are announced to students in school.  Remember anytime a student stays after school with their teacher for help with their work, qualifies as “make-up” time.  The student just needs to ask for a note from their teacher to confirm.  Students will need to make up 30 minutes per class missed or 2 hours per day.  It is the responsibility of the students to attend MAKE-UP time in order to eliminate their unexcused absences in their attendance records and have the opportunity to go to the school dance.  Students are not eligible to go to school dances with any unexcused absences.

TEACHERS will contact parents of student’s who are habitually late.

SIGN OUT Procedures:  Sign out procedures ensure the safety and accountability of students. Whether you are ill or have an appointment during instructional time, students must tell the teacher and then report to the office where one of the secretaries will phone parents to confirm.  A note is still required upon the student’s return to school.

MORE INFORMATION regarding the School Absent Policy can be found on this website under the top heading, SCHOOL and then click on ABSENT POLICY.  Please take the time to review the policy to be informed.

PARENTS are reminded of the importance of “in school” instruction that is missed when students are absent from school.  Students should only be excused from classes when absolutely necessary.  Making appointments outside school hours is encouraged.

Thank you for your co-operation.
