Ms. Cindi DaCosta (Noon Hour Supervisor) has been dressing up and handing out Halloween treats for many, many years at Mount Elizabeth. Thank you Cindi!!!

Student Council organized “Socktober” where staff and students at MEMSS donated new, unused socks that will be given to people in need around our community.

Trades students, school district officials and representatives from LNG Canada, the BC Construction Association and the Construction Foundation of BC took part in a celebration at Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School on October 18 to acknowledge the generous donation of $100,000 given by LNG Canada to trades programs at three Northern BC high schools.

A “Project Shop Class” announcement was held in Kitimat on October 18 in celebration of $100,000 received through the generosity of LNG Canada distributed to three northern BC high schools that included Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School, Hazelton Secondary School and Veritas School.  Project Shop Class is an initiative organized through the British Columbia Construction Association and the Construction Foundation of BC designed to help schools in BC revitalize their shop classes with new tools and equipment.

A short reception was held in the Trades/Automotive Shop at Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School with trades class students, members of the community, and representatives from the school district, LNG Canada, the British Columbia Construction Association and the Construction Foundation of BC.

LNG Canada’s donation to Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School and Hazelton Secondary School consisted of a new milling machine for each school totaling a donation of $70,000 to Coast Mountains School District 82.  Geraldine Lawlor, Principal at Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School shared during the reception, “LNG Canada’s generous donation of this milling machine will enrich the educational experience for our youth and allows us to provide training that is both authentic and relevant to today’s industry.  LNG Canada’s generosity will foster the development of practical skills and encourage students to pursue a career in the skilled trades.  This donation will make a difference in the lives if our students today and for years to come”.

Superintendent of Schools, Katherine McIntosh hears LNG Canada Workforce Development Manager, Tracey Mackinnon speak to the benefits in getting students interested in the trades.

Tracey Mackinnon, Workforce Development Manager with LNG Canada stated, “LNG Canada is pleased to provide young people the opportunity to gain first-hand experience with equipment and tools related to careers in the trades”.  She added, “The apprentice journey is one LNG Canada encourages young people to consider and explore, as there is a critical need for skilled group of tradespersons in British Columbia”.

Superintendent of Schools, Katherine McIntosh shared, “Over the last several years our school district has worked to establish and increase the variety of career trades experiences available to our students in Coast Mountains School District 82.  The generous donation from LNG Canada through the Construction Foundation of BC’s “Project Shop Class” will go a long way to support these initiatives”.
